In its nearly 40-year history, the No. 5 WashU women’s soccer team has never lost to Centre College or Millikin University. The Bears are a perfect 12-0 against Centre and Millikin in program history, and have outscored them by a combined 51-4. The No. 5-ranked Bears continued their flawless streak this week, defeating Centre 5-1 on Sept. 27 and Millikin 7-0 on Sept. 30.
WashU v. Centre
WashU put on an impressive win on the road against Centre. Sophomore forward Olivia Clemons recorded a team high of eight shots, with five on goal and one of connecting with the net. In addition to Clemons, sophomore position Kate Martin, senior forward Ella Koleno, junior forward Madi Foley, and first-year forward Heidi Fesler all notched goals en-route to a 5-1 victory.
Within the last 18 years, the Bears have played Centre College on four different occasions, with Sunday marking their largest margin of victory. Not only that, but the Bears were able to put an end to the Colonels’ undefeated 2025 season.
The Bears dominated offensively by tallying 30 shots to the Colonels’ four, with a third of them finding the net.
While the Bears were quick to get a goal just four minutes in the first half from Foley, their second goal didn’t come until the 49th minute from Martin. Four more shots followed before Clemons scored her fifth goal of the season, bringing the score to 3-0.
Momentum continued when junior Sophie Viscovich assisted Koleno’s fourth goal of the season to put the Bears up 4-0. Viscovich has been a crucial cog in the Bears’ offense this season, leading the team in assists and firing the second-most shots on goal.
During the 76th minute of the game, the Colonels were able to score their first, and only, goal of the game. This did not damper the Bears’ attack, as just five minutes later, they were able to bring the game to a 5-1 lead, thanks to Fesler who was assisted by junior Keira Smyser, who transferred to WashU after playing two seasons at the University of Iowa in Division I.
WashU v. Millikin
The Bears came out hot against Millikin, using momentum from their win against Centre to put them on the board quickly. What was expected to be an easy matchup proved to be so when sophomore forward Cami Colpitts managed a hat trick within the first 20 minutes of the game. Her first goal came during the 14th minute off of an assist from Koleno. Just two and a half minutes later, Colpitts connected with Smyser for her second goal of the day. Only 42 seconds later, Colpitts scored her fifth goal of the season and third goal of the day off another assist from Koleno, who also recorded three total assists against Centre.
Multiple attacks on goal, and keeping the ball out of the Big Blue’s possession gave the Bears’ an early lead to this huge success. After freshman Monica Morales-Martinez’s goal put the Bears up 4-0, after just 22 minutes of play, it was evident that the Bears were playing, as the Millikin announcer put it, “like national champions.”
After a missed penalty kick from Koleno to the crossbar, the Bears were able to press on. Roughly 15 minutes after the fourth goal, junior defender Allie Goulding scored the fifth goal of the game in her second appearance and first goal of the season. First-year middle Ridley Newton scored her first collegiate goal, bringing the Bears to a 6-0 lead going into the second half.
At the start of the second half, WashU came out with a slightly altered line up and junior Charlotte Shapiro starting in goal.
With zero shots on goal from the Big Blue, the Bears showed their determination to continue their lead in the second half. In the 51st minute, junior forward Julia Moore scored her first goal of the season and WashU’s seventh, and final, goal of the game.
With just one non-conference game left in their season — a matchup against Greenville University on Oct. 7 — the Bears remain undefeated heading into University Athletic Association (UAA) play. Their schedule continues to get harder, as all eight UAA teams were ranked in the most recent United Soccer Coaches poll. WashU will host No. 10 Brandeis University on Oct. 4, their biggest test so far this season.
