The #14 Washington University women’s tennis team kept its recent string of success on Tuesday afternoon, defeating NAIA opponent Missouri Baptist University 8-1 here at the Tao Tennis Center.

The Bears took five of six singles matches in addition to all three doubles, with one of each coming by default.

On the singles end, juniors Karina Kocemba and Kalee Cassady both took first and second singles by the same count of 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Paige Madara followed suit in third singles with a 6-2, 7-5 victory, and senior Grace Fox made it through the longest match of the day with a 6-0, 5-7, 14-12 win at fourth. Sophomore Kristen George’s defeat at fifth singles, by a count of 6-4, 6-3, was the team’s only setback.

The strong play continued on the doubles side, where juniors Jaclyn Bild and Elise Sambol won first doubles at 8-3 and senior Allison Dender and sophomore Natalie Tingir took second by a score of 8-2.

With the win, the Bears took their fourth contest in a row, improving to 7-3 on the year. The team heads to Madison, Wis., for its next contest, as it will participate in the Madison Invitational, one of its biggest tournaments of the season, this weekend, April 2-3.
