Will they be canceled? Should they be canceled?
“Community,” starring Chevy Chase, airs on NBC on Thursdays at 7 p.m.
“Fringe”
Thursday, 8 p.m. on FOX
Will it be canceled?
If FOX is known for anything, it’s for running absolutely brilliant science fiction shows until they have a loyal following, then killing them just to rip people’s hearts asunder (see: “Firefly”). By this alone, FOX will probably say goodbye to “Fringe.”
Should it be canceled?
Dear God no, the show is well-acted and well-written, blending science and law enforcement not seen since Mulder and Scully. John Noble plays an excellent mad scientist, and as long as the writers have more scientific insanity to portray, the show should go on.
“Community”
Thursday, 7 p.m. on NBC
Will it be canceled?
It’s hard to say. The ratings aren’t good, but its online following grows stronger every week. The ratings could see a jump if it wins an Emmy, but is NBC ready to campaign?
Should it be canceled?
Absolutely not. It’s one of the cleverest shows on television, jam-packed with laugh-out-loud jokes, B-movie parodies and surprisingly successful sentimental moments. We’d hate to see it go the way of “Arrested Development,” but thankfully, NBC has a recent history of sticking with critically acclaimed yet unpopular shows.
“The Office”
Thursday, 8 p.m. on NBC
Will it be canceled?
No. No, no, no, no, no.
Should it be canceled?
Probably. When Michael departs at the end of the season, he leaves his office in shambles. Most of the characters have stagnated. Jim is a shell of his old self, and his attempts to get back to pranking just look childish. Maybe the show has finally run its course after 120-plus episodes.
