Wrightonpalooza to celebrate the Wrightons one last time

In advance of Chancellor Mark Wrighton’s retirement, effective June 1, Washington University will hold an event to celebrate the leadership and change he and his wife, Risa Zwerling Wrighton, have brought to Wash. U. over the last 24 years. That celebration will take the form of a festival, aptly named Wrightonpalooza.

Wrightonpalooza will be an afternoon filled with music, games and fun. Next Monday, April 8, from 3 to 6 p.m., Mudd Field will turn into a party.

Local musicians Brian Owens, a soul musician who recently released a new album titled “Soul of Cash,” full of reimagined Johnny Cash hits, and Steve Ewing, a funk/punk/ska musician who has 30 years of hits on the charts, will headline the festival. Wash. U. student groups including Mariachi Cuicacalli, Juggling Club and WU Fuego will also perform.

There will be free food from various local food trucks and Ted Drewes will be supplied for free as well. Besides the performances and abundance of food, there will be tie-dying, art, frisbee and more. On top of all of that, there will be an inflatable bowling alley.

Wrightonpalooza plans to provide the perfect opportunity to celebrate Wash. U., have fun and distract yourself from the looming specter of finals.

The event will take place on Mudd Field from 3-6 p.m. next Monday, and if it rains, Wrightonpalooza will be moved to the Athletic Complex. However, rain or shine, the show will go on; the Wrightons will be celebrated and the University will have an afternoon of food and fun.
