These are the things I can’t stop thinking about

| Editor-in-Chief

Pop culture and entertainment almost are always on my mind, whether I’m looking at Hailey Baldwin’s latest street style, listening to Top 40 music or watching the newest episode of “Grey’s Anatomy.” But—taking inspiration from The Cut’s series, “I think about this a lot”—I wanted to highlight a few things that I simply can’t get out of my head, even though everyone else in the world seems to have moved on.

“This Is Why I’m Hot”

The 2007 Mims’ song “This Is Why I’m Hot” rose to the top of charts—it peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100—for a reason. It’s a true party anthem, with lyrics like, “I’m hot ’cause I’m fly/You ain’t ‘cause you not,” and it has a minimalist beat that you can’t help but nod along to. The song doesn’t get a lot of airplay anymore—and I wish it was a track that got a frat party going in the way that the Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” or Flo Rida’s “Low” do. The song encapsulates this moment in time where a catchy chorus and a self-confident message took over the hip-hop scene, and Mims seemed poised for a career of musical success. The song is pure fun. And, yes, “This Is Why I’m Hot” is a song I’ll be bopping along to for years to come.

Season 2, Episode 7 of “Unfabulous”

OK, so, here’s the thing: While everyone my age loves “Zoey 101” and “Drake & Josh,” it seems like very few people have seen “Unfabulous.” And there are so many moments from the show that seem to loop and reloop through my brain. I identified with Addie, Emma Roberts’ character because she was just like me: She was a bit awkward and wrote songs while jumping up and down on her bed. “Unfabulous” truly epitomizes everything good about ’00s TV shows and movies marketed toward middle schoolers. It highlights the issues most commonly dealt with at that age: friendships, young love and figuring out how you are. This Halloween episode stands out most because I’m fairly certain it’s the first I saw of “Unfabulous.” Also, it features a case of mistaken identity caused by too many boys dressing as Darth Vader.

Gigi Hadid’s outfit for her Vogue Eyewear Launch

Dressed in a shiny pink fringed Kriest biker jacket with matching wide-legged pants, her hair blowing in the wind, Gigi Hadid looked like a real-life Barbie doll at the launch of her Vogue Eyewear collection in June. On the red carpet, Hadid looked chic as hell as she posed in tinted sunglasses from the collection. But what stood out to me most were the photographs of Hadid on the way to the event. Standing tall in Aquazzura platform sandals, Hadid strode through crowds of paparazzi and fans on the way to the event, everyone stopping in their tracks as they clamored for the perfect shot. The best shot shows her midstride, pushing a blonde strand off her face as she almost levitates above the crowd in her heels. Hadid’s one of the most photographed people in the world, but this candid image really stands out.
