The last time I was intimidated by somebody I was interviewing, I was a wee freshman walking into the office of Larry Kindbom, the head coach of the Washington University football team; it was my first ever interview for Student Life. But as I sat in my office, about to make the call that would be my last interview as editor-in-chief of StudLife, I was also sweating.

On paper, the Washington University men’s track-and-field team was the favorite heading into the University Athletic Association championships. The Bears lived up to the billing over the weekend in Waltham, Mass., winning eight of 16 events en route to their 13th UAA Indoor championship and fourth in the last five years.

The things they carried ranged from two $40 cases of beads to a 30-pack of Budweiser. And for around a dozen Washington University students, the burden came with the added benefit of marching in the 2014 Soulard Mardi Gras parade Saturday morning.
