Winners
Tom Brady: Two Superbowl MVPs by the age of 26 would make anyone a winner, even if we’re not quite ready to jump on “The Next Montana” bandwagon.
Adam Vinatieri: Despite a tough start at Reliant, Vinatieri managed to kick his second Superbowl-winning field goal. We’ll just pretend the first one wasn’t against the Rams in ’02.
Anheiser Busch: With the hillarious Bud Light and Budweiser spots during the game, our un-official school sponsor definitely won the ad contest.
Tivo: Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael Powell called it “God’s Machine.” Thanks to this marvel of modern technology, viewers were able to check out the infamous half-time flash over and over again, making it the most Tivo’d moment ever.
Football fans: Between the beer, the great plays, the thrilling finish and the nudity, football’s biggest game definitely delivered.
Losers
John Kasay: Unfortunately this kicker didn’t have a Vinatieri-esque happy ending. After a last minute touchdown, his out-of-bounds kick off may have cost his team the game.
Rick Proehl: So close, yet so far…after catching a touchdown pass with a minute left to go that tied the game, the former Ram once again had to watch Vinatieri kick a last-second game-winner.
The FCC and CBS: Janet Jackson’s supposed wardrobe “malfunction” led to angry calls from outraged parents who weren’t ready for their little football fans to be quite so exposed to Ms. Jackson.
The first half: The battle between two teams known for tough defense, as opposed to showy offense meant a rather painful first half, as the game remained scoreless for the first 27 minutes.
Mark Roberts: The international streaker came all the way from Liverpool to strut his stuff in Houston only to be kept off the air and to be flattened by New England linebacker Matt Chatham.
