Anyone looking for a good dose of laughter about. well. sex should visit Cast ‘n’ Crew’s production of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”. The show will take place Friday at 8:00 pm, Saturday at 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm, and Sunday at 7:00 pm at the Village Black Box Theater. Tickets are $5.00, and are available at Mallinckrodt throughout the rest of the week and or at the stage door. Trust me, it is worth your $5.00.
The tagline for the show is “For those who enjoy sexual innuendos and insulting the opposite gender.” Let’s face it, there are very few things funnier than people making sex jokes while performing a musical. The entire first half of the play is about dating and relationships. It ends with the wedding. The entire second half is about marriage. Personally, I like the song in the second half where the characters are singing, “We’re married and we’re gonna have sex!”
The play is a set of very funny sex-based vignettes. Director Merideth Ashley Rettner, a junior, said she picked the musical because she thought “it would be really good for a college group. It’s all about relationships and insulting the opposite gender.that’s something the audience can relate to.” She also stressed, and I agree, that it is a really good time even for those who aren’t the normal theater crowd.
I was personally impressed by the actors’ ability to keep in character, to play off some of the scenes. Personally I don’t know if I could mime having sex on stage with that much confidence. The actors, though, pull off everything beautifully. As someone in the audience, I was really interested in these scenes, these people. I also don’t think I stopped laughing for more than two minutes.
Basically, if you like sex jokes, awkward situations, insulting the opposite gender, or laughing, then you should probably head over to the Village at some point this weekend. For a completely student run production, the show is pretty amazing and extremely entertaining.
