Dixie Chicks Movie
When Dixie Chick Natalie Maines said she was ashamed that the President was from Texas in 2003, the Chicks were inundated with angry and supportive reactions from Americans everywhere. The trio made a full length feature film, “Shut up & Sing” from their beginning popularity to the infamous anti-Bush comment and the events following their U.K. concert. The movie questions the right to freedom of speech and its consequences.

Showing at Plaza Frontenac today at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday at 9:30 p.m.

Jordan Temple
Explore the Middle East-Petra, Jordan to be specific-without getting a passport. Martha Sharp Joukowsky, professor at Brown University, is speaking about the Great Temple at 7 p.m. tonight at the St. Louis Art Museum in the auditorium. Joukowsky directed the archaeological excavation of the Great Temple. Free to the public.

Bauhaus Bonanza
Are you going as Captain Jack Sparrow or a devil wearing Prada? The costume choices are limitless, and so will be the techno songs that the Architecture School will be playing for the annual Halloween party from 9-11:45 p.m. tonight in Givens Parking Lot. Don’t forget to pick up your free ticket, available today in Mallinckrodt from 12-3 p.m., Wohl Center from 6-8:30 p.m., the Village from 6-8 p.m., and Givens from 12-2 p.m. No swords or weapons allowed.

Singing your Heart Out
Mezzo soprano Jade Lin Hornbaker sings with pianist Henry Palkes the music of Modest Mussorgsky, Robert Schumann, Francis Poulenc and John Ireland at Whitaker Hall tonight at 7 p.m. Come early to get a good seat for this free recital!

Return of the Pikers
The Pikers have been around for 21 years, and they’re singing their greatest hits with 51 Piker alumni. The a cappella group sings in Graham Chapel at 8 p.m., doors open at 7:45 p.m. Tickets are $2 with a student ID and $5 for the general public, and can be purchased in Mallinckrodt, Wohl Center or at the event.

The Loop Underground
Featured performers include Murder in a Tuxedo, Eyecon, Beautiful Losers and The Ruckus Crew. The Pageant’s doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. Cover is $5 for all ages.

Anheuser-Busch Brewery Tour
The Village presents a program on alcohol in the media with marketing professor Ambar Rao. Rao will speak on alcohol advertising and its effects on the public. The lecture begins at noon and includes a free breakfast. The group will leave at 1 p.m. to take the tour at Anheuser-Busch. Transportation is not included.

Oz Nightclub
College Nights with DJ Reece explodes tonight beginning at 9 p.m. Cover is $10 for ages 19 and up and $5 for people 21 and over. All students get a $5 discount with a college ID.

The Radio Plays
See live theater in the style of old time radio at Small Group Theatre in the basement of the Village. The play begins at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 7 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Ordinary Nation
The Repertory Theater of St. Louis presents “Ordinary Nation” and his gambling family. Nation Jones, an economist, finds out that his bookie father is down in cash, his teenage daughter is conning fraternity students out of greenbacks and his wife is interested in an aspiring politician. Jones wants his family back and is raising the stakes and working on his bluff. The play begins at 2 p.m. Call (314) 968-4925 for tickets, which run from $32.50 to $50.
