Olin’s new technology center to open today
Olin Library will be celebrating the opening of The Arc, the library’s new technology center, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. this afternoon. All members of the Washington University community are encouraged to attend and learn about the new and exciting features of The Arc. Library staff will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate the new facility. This new center is located on level A of the library, one floor down from the main level. The Arc is equipped with computers and scanners, in addition to software that has the capability to create digital multimedia projects. Additionally, there is a computer classroom which is designed to be “hands-on,” a presentation room built in the design of a lecture room, and there are also consulting rooms available. As part of the celebration of the opening of The Arc, light refreshments will be served during the opening.
Wrighton reiterates Affirmative Action commitment
In a recent memo written to the Washington University community, Chancellor Mark Wrighton expressed his and the university’s feelings concerning equal employment, equal opportunity, and cultural diversity. The memo states that all personnel matters will also be blind with regard to “race, color, age, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, veteran status, or disability.” Additionally, the memo outlines the university’s goal to provide affirmative action opportunities to women, minorities, veterans, and people who are disabled. Wrighton ended the memo by saying that “it is our firm belief that jobs must be open to all qualified persons, and we are committed to the success of an Affirmative Action Program as an important business goal.” This memo comes on the heels of an amicus brief the university filed in the Supreme Court earlier this month supporting Affirmative Action policies in university admissions. WU joined hundreds of other universities across the country in their support of Affirmative Action.
