WUPD offers new service for overseas travel

The Washington University Police Department will soon offer a new program to advise members of the WU community on the safety risks concerning their overseas travel plans. WUPD’s Wendy Oloteo will be able to give students and faculty detailed information about the security risks they may face at any travel destination. The police department created this program because it is a subscriber to the United States State Department’s Electronic Data Base (EDB), which lists travel advisories, as well as security and crime incidents for every country. The database also give up-to-date information on unusual situations overseas, plus contact information for United States diplomatic and consular posts, telephone numbers for the authorities in different countries, and crime information for specific cities across the globe.

Free vehicle inspections return for spring break

In preparation for spring break travel, the Washington University Police Department has teamed up with Hartmann’s Towing to provide a free vehicle inspection service for students, faculty, and staff at the university. Travelers can bring their cars to the parking lot outside of the South 40 police station for this service. The inspection will include checking tire pressure, fluid levels, wipers, headlights, and taillights. Additionally, local businesses have donated extra oil and windshield washer fluid so that free top-offs can be made. The goal of this free service is to ensure safety while people are on the road. This program is being provided with assistance from Bear Patrol and the parking staff. For more information, call the WUPD crime prevention office at 935-5084.
