“We had 65 donors giving 799 inches of hair,” said committee member Jessica Ballantyne, who also said that the event raised over $800 in donated money.

The donors received free haircuts courtesy of two salons, Dezine Preston and Jon Tomas, which donated their staffs’ time for the event.

The hair and money will go to the national Locks of Love organization, which uses the hair to make wigs for children with alopecia areata, a permanent hair loss disease.

The seven-hour event drew primarily women because Locks of Love requires at least 10 inches of hair.

“Girls outnumbered guys 2 to 1 at the event,” said Ballantyne with a smile. “But we did have a few guys come in and get their hair cut. They leave looking so much better then they do coming in.”

The spring Locks of Love event will be held in late April.
