Soundtrack to freshman year

David Kaminsky, Elizabeth Ochoa, and Ivanna Yang

After the gown is sent to the drycleaner’s, the streamers and cake cleared away and the last present opened, high-school graduation for most is a milestone left behind in photo albums and scrapbooks. So too are the songs associated with the completion of the four years of academia. “Closing Time,” “Graduation” and “Time of Your Life” make way for new songs that define the first year of independence. Add these ten tunes to your play list for Freshman Year.

“I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor”-Arctic Monkeys; You can show off by noting that this British invasion is more catchy than Oasis and more pulled together than The Libertines.

“Shot In The Back”-Head Automatica; Former Glassjaw frontman takes the lead in Head Automatica and delivers some catchy, danceable tracks that have just begun to make it into MTV’s rotation of five second video clips.

“Get Into The Groove”-Madonna; Everyone should have a dance tune to add to the Freshman floor mix CD.

“Fix You”-Coldplay; For all the guys (and girls) hoping to pick-up the pieces after a long-distance relationship had gone awry.

“The Only Difference”-Panic! At The Disco; While the slightly electronic voice is odd at times, a song about adultery never sounded so good.

“Minor Detail”-Sondre Lerche; The perfect music for studying for Gen Chem at 4 a.m.

“The Eraser”-Thom Yorke; Radiohead’s front man gives you more for when you’re depressed about that high school sweetheart who inevitably cheats on you within the first month of school.

“Ageless Beauty”-Stars; Their version of lovey dovey power pop is perfect for your first time. or second.or whenever.

“Every Breath You Take”-Sting; When your roommate begins to eat, sleep and breath Facebook, it’s time to remind him or her of the possible consequences.

“Broken Bride”-Ludo; For a homegrown St. Louis band, you can’t get better than this.
