Looking at the margins: Lagieski finds motivation in narrow defeat

During last year’s NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships, senior Michael Lagieski was the top seed, and he raced a career-best 53.70 in the 100-yard breaststroke. But, when he looked up at the time board, the number next to his name was two—he got beat by three hundredths of a second.

Lagieski wins national championship, women finish 8th overall

Becoming the fourth men’s swimmer in school history to do so, freshman Michael Lagieski became a national champion by winning the men’s 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.10 on the third day of the 2014 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships in Indianapolis.

Cross-country teams gear up for NCAA Championships

Fresh off of their top-three finishes in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship Nov. 16, the Washington University men’s and women’s cross-country teams have built up all season for this Saturday’s NCAA Championships in Hanover, Ind. Over the last several years, both the men’s and women’s squads have reached heights unprecedented in school history.

Women’s cross-country wins national championship; Men finish third

One year ago, the women’s cross-country team was thrilled just to be on the podium. Coming into the NCAA championship meet as the nation’s eighth-ranked team, the Bears leapfrogged over supposedly superior teams to finish second overall.
