Lugar wins tournament as golf falls one stroke short

The third annual WUSTL Spring Invitational came down to one stroke, and the No. 1 Washington University women’s golf team was on the wrong end of the final standings. Despite the narrow loss to NAIA No. 6 William Woods University, which has now won every rendition of the tournament, the Bears chose to dwell on the positives.

Lugar, Hibbert lead women’s golf to comeback win

Last weekend was a testament to how far the Washington University women’s golf team has come since its inception in 2008. The alarm bells were ringing on Saturday evening as the Bears carded a 331 (+43) on the first day of the Doug Georgianni Memorial Invitational, leaving them in fifth place and seven strokes behind first place and No. 8 Gustavus Adolphus College.

The Washington University women’s golf team continues to set records and break them again. In the first round of the Millikin Fall Classic, the Bears combined to shoot a 292, eight strokes lower than their previous record of 300 set the week before at the Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic.
