Student robbed after driving strangers

Three suspects stole a female student’s car after she offered to give them a ride to a MetroLink stop on Thursday around noon.

Police officers found one juvenile suspect and took him into custody. The vehicle was recovered in St. Louis and the victim was uninjured.

The victim had been biking on Enright near Westgate when three teenagers flagged her down. One suspect said that his girlfriend was going to have a baby, and they needed directions to the MetroLink station, a police report said.

The victim went home to get her car and offered to drive the suspects. They got in and told her they knew a shortcut on the 6200 block of North Drive. When she stopped the car, they pushed her out and drove away, the police report said.

According to the report, witnesses who heard her screaming pursued one of the suspects on foot and recovered her purse.

This article is highly lacking in details. Was this pregnant girlfriend physically visible to the victim of the crime? If so, then I could understand the victim’s sympathy and her not wanting to make a 9 months pregnant woman walk 3 blocks to the metro. Or did the victim just believe a story about a hypothetical pregnant woman who needed a ride? If the latter is the case, then the victim should have just pointed and said “the metro is 3 blocks that way”. We need more information before jumping to judgement and criticism of the victim.

Looking over these comments, I’m disgusted by the student body. People who highlight the idiocy of the victim get lots of thumbs up. People who attack the first group for having a heartless attitude toward a woman who was a victim of a crime because she was trying to do a good deed get thumbs down.

It reveals a lot of things. It shows the callousness of people who comment on Studlife articles. It shows their racism, because they believe only a moron would pick up a group of young people claiming a pregnant girlfriend in a predominantly-black neighborhood.

    Shame on you all.

What kind of news reporting is this? You literally copy and pasted the police report. I can’t believe WashU pays you to “write” this garbage.

I’m sorry that this happened, but who honestly offers to give three strangers a ride to the Metrolink station that is 2-3 blocks away?

This is so very, very stupid. Sometimes I think we, at my alma mater, are book smart but a little street stupid.
