Student robbed outside Cicero’s
A female student was robbed Thursday evening in the parking lot behind Cicero’s on the Loop.
The victim was not injured.
The victim reported being approached by two suspects at 6:30 p.m. One displayed a handgun and demanded her property. She gave the suspects her wallet and they fled.
The robbery took place close to the Lewis Center, which is a part of the Sam Fox School. In an email sent out to all art students, the school offered advice:
“Please be vigilant in coming and going to and from the Lewis Center in pairs and take caution in moving from one side of the facility to the other after dark. Although we have been without incident on the Lewis Center grounds, this recent robbery’s proximity to our facility is a concern. Please exercise care and always have a cell phone at hand with peers names and numbers on speed dial,” the email said.
Police are looking for suspects described as a white male approximately 17-19 years of age and 5’11 and a black male with a thin mustache approximately 17-19 years of age.
University City Police Captain Michael Ransom encourages any victims to call the police immediately after any crime. He said that this victim conducted other business before contacting the police.
“If [the victim] called earlier, there’s a chance [the suspects] could have been caught,” Ransom said.

STL’s a dump!
To “Thanks!” – while I agree that more notice should have been given than a simple email to art students… I wonder, to what else are you referring that has gotten you fed up about Wash U’s lack of communication? This instance notwithstanding, I think Wash U does a great job at communicating safety issues to the student body as soon as they happen.
Just out of curiosity, why was an email only sent to art students? I totally understand that they might be at increased risk because they spend so much time at the Lewis Center. But, plenty of other students also frequent that area- what’s the harm in letting the entire student body know about this incident? I’ve parked in that lot plenty of times (often later than 6:30), and I would have appreciated a crime alert about this.
I’m getting a little fed up with WashU’s reluctance to communicate these safety issues with the entire student body. It is lazy, careless, and a pretty good indication of their emphasis on good PR over student issues.
I second everything that you say, but students (or at least some) who live in the area also got a crime alert email, not sure why that wasn’t mentioned.
No noise complaints though!
THIS is where we need more security. NOT the North Side.
