Rock musician Mat Kearney will be the second of three artists performing at this year’s W.I.L.D., with the third to be announced sometime between now and the April 26 concert, according to Social Programming Board.

Kearney, whose performance was announced Thursday on SPB’s Twitter account, initially gained popularity with his single “Nothing Left to Lose,” which rose as high as No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. To date, Kearney has sold more than 500,000 albums.

SPB is planning spring W.I.L.D. to have three artists of equal renown, according to a statement the group issued to Student Life.

SPB announced Yeasayer as the first artist on March 28. Sophomore W.I.L.D. Directors Anna Eisenberg and Danielle Adesman said that W.I.L.D. is aiming for a “festival feel” this year and that Kearney will help with that vision.

“He is a great performer with a variety of great songs,” Eisenberg said. “We believe that the balance of Mat with Yeasayer provides for a great concert, and ultimately our goal is to put on the best programming possible, and we feel Mat fits that.”

Kearney will go onstage at 7:15 p.m. and perform until 8:15 p.m. Yeasayer will play from 6:00 p.m. until 6:45 p.m., and the unannounced performer will finish at about 9:45 p.m.

Several students were excited by the announcement.

“I think he’s a really solid vocalist and fits the mold of a spring W.I.L.D. artist. I love his ‘Nothing Left to Lose’ album,” junior Lucy Montgomery said.

Others were unfamiliar with Kearney but still expressed interest in the concert.

“I hadn’t heard of Mat Kearney before, but I think it all balances out. A lot of my friends hadn’t heard of Yeasayer but were pretty excited about Mat Kearney,” sophomore Karuna Tirumala said.

SPB plans to announce a third artist soon, once contracts are finalized.
