Washington University student killed in auto-pedestrian accident

A Washington University student died after an auto-pedestrian accident in Wilmington, N.C. June 2.

According to a report issued by Wilmington County police, the student, Zishan Zhao, who was a rising junior in the College of Arts & Sciences, was hit by a car while crossing a street without using a crosswalk around 9:30 p.m. Zhao later died in the hospital due to injuries sustained in the accident.

“With a heavy heart, I can confirm on behalf of the University that our student Zishan (Simoner) Zhao died on Sunday from injuries after being struck by an automobile,” Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs Jill Friedman wrote in a statement to Student Life. “We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and others who knew and loved him.”

No charges will be filed related to the incident.
