Over winter break, the University City Police Department made two arrests related to Dec. 6 armed robberies.

A female suspected was arrested first, and through information gathered by the University City Detective Bureau from her arrest, a male suspect was later identified and arrested.

In both robberies, the female suspect first asked pedestrians to borrow their phone. Then, the armed male suspect demanded the victims give up their belongings. No injuries were reported from either incident.

Though the University City Police Department made the arrests, the Washington University Police Department assisted in the investigation. WUPD Chief Mark Glenn emphasizes the importance of student safety in the wake of this incident.

“We just really want to tell people to be aware of their surroundings and to pay attention to what’s going around them and trust their instincts,” Glenn said.
