Recent H1N1 Events:

No severe cases have been reported among University students so far.

A 14-year-old girl from Hazelwood, Mo., died at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital last Tuesday. The girl’s mother claims that doctors confirmed her daughter had tested positive for the swine flu. The Missouri Department of Health is investigating the case, which later will be passed on to the CDC.

A 24-year-old Independence, Mo., woman died on Sept. 16 after being hospitalized with flu-like symptoms. She was the second death in Missouri after a 44-year-old man died in May after traveling to Mexico.
Twenty-six states report widespread influenza activity—Missouri is not included, but Illinois, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky and Tennessee are.

Missouri reports “local” activity of influenza, meaning a relatively low level of activity.
