Craigslist explodes with debate offers

Although the Commission of Presidential Debates has not yet released tickets to the debate tonight, over 30 listings have appeared on Craigslist, requesting debate tickets and campus access. Offers ranged from $25 to over $2000. Students who did not get picked in the University ticket lottery posted ticket requests on Craigslist. One user posted that he would pay a University student to use his or her student ID so he and a friend could gain access to campus to see Hardball.

“I’ll pay you $100. We’re both in our 50’s—you could say we’re your parents. Or maybe you have some other idea. (Is there a secret underground tunnel?). Whatever works to get us on the campus—you’re a hundred dollars richer,” the poster wrote.

Wash. U. Student Wins Golden Ticket to Debate

After canvassing over 200 doors in three days, freshman Michael Schultz was awarded one highly coveted pass into the vice presidential debate by the College Democrats of Washington University and St. Louis University.

The golden ticket, provided by the Obama campaign for a college student from either school who earned the most “points” campaigning for Obama, was awarded Wednesday night at a sign-making party on campus.

“I think it’s great,” said Wash. U. College Democrats co-president Ben Guthorn. “Not too many tickets are going to be given out to students, so any opportunity to get another student in the debate hall is a great one.”
