With Thanksgiving approaching, the editorial board found it appropriate to take a moment to reflect on some of the things in our lives (big and small) that we’re thankful for:

1. My family and friends who are so supportive and always there for me.
2. My wonderful girlfriend who amazes me every day and encourages me to try new things.
3. My professors who work tirelessly to make my courses both fun and informative.
4. Oil that is less than $50 a barrel and cheap gas, even if it is indicative of the economic crisis.
5. Black Friday sales.

1. I am thankful that my friends and family are healthy and happy, and that I get to be part of making their lives healthier and happier.

3. The Danforth University Center food court’s delicious Indian food this month.
4. Earl Grey tea—thank you, dear Earl, for keeping me awake when I need you the most.
5. Finally, Gmail themes for keeping my eyes interested while I stare at my e-mail all day long!

1. A student body that proved this year that it is politically aware and engaged—campus was more charged this semester than I’ve ever seen it before, which was an amazing feeling and something to strive for every day.
2. A major (English) that lets me read for homework books that I’ve always craved to read for fun.
3. The University facilities and maintenance staff who work tirelessly on a day-to-day basis—even when I leave the Student Life office at 4 a.m., they are awake making campus look as perfect as it always is.
4. My family and my friends, new and old, who put up with my long hours in the Student Life office—I depend on their invaluable advice and support and am in their gratitude every day.
5. An amazing staff at Student Life that makes my job easy, rewarding and fun—without each staff member, this job wouldn’t be worth it.

1. I’m thankful to be living in the United States, a country that gives its citizens the respect and freedom to participate in electing the government that will determine the laws they will live by.
2. The many Americans who are so dedicated to the cause of freedom that they are fighting abroad in the military or at home fighting for the cause of justice.
3. The chance to spend four years with a genuinely talented and caring group of peers, considering thoughts and issues at a University that truly challenges its students.
4. The professors in the Philosophy department. They have always been available and encouraging while helping me work through challenging material throughout my four years at Wash. U.
5. The researchers at the medical school who give me hope that my chronic illness might be cured one day.

1. I am thankful for the Verizon cell phone tower in Mudd. Only three years too late!
2. The diligent and respectful studiers of Olin Level B, the only place in the library that is truly quiet.
3. My landlord, who has replaced or fixed four electrical appliances and resolved three maintenance issues in the last three months.
4. Podcasts. My only inspiration for walking to campus in 30-degree weather.
5. My wonderful boyfriend, who drove 9 hours to the colder weather of Michigan just so that I could spend Thanksgiving at home with my family!
