Since then, we've seen ten world's fairs in other countries and we'll have three more in the coming years (2010 in Shanghai, China; 2012 in Yeosu, Korea; an 2015 in Milan, Italy). Chicago had actually won the right to host a world's fair in 1992, but bowed out under pressure from local and state politicians in the late '80's. Perhaps instead of bidding for yet another Olympics, we should look at bidding for a world's fair, which involves more of the local population and can have greater tangible and intangible benefits in long run. I would like to see a city, once again, explore the idea of hosting a world’s fair in the United States again.
