PS. to the above:

Let's have more public transportation, for abled and differently abled alike, on the WashU campus and everywhere. Let's bring back trolleys, not just for tourists but for everybody. I lived in Philadelphia, a city blessed with an extensive and practical trolley system, and an extensive network of bicycle paths. This made it very easy to get around without a car. I lived in Santa Barbara, with a county-wide network of dedicated bike paths, and extensive bicycle parking lots. Let's try this here.

The comparison of WashU to Mordor is intriguing, as is the anecdote about the circulator driver's insensitivity to a student on crutches. I too have found Washington University to be very handicapped unfriendly, even hostile. My handicapped students tell similar stories. It's time for a change.

Lecturer Dr. Jerome Bauer
legally blind in one eye and variably low-visioned, but very capable and well prepared....
