Students robbed at the corner of Big Bend and Lindell
Early Sunday morning, two students were robbed at gunpoint at the corner of Big Bend Boulevard and Lindell Boulevard. A black male adult between 26 and 30 years of age, wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and a dark blue baseball cap, approached the students with a handgun.
ThurtenE offers whirlwind of fun, despite rain and tornado warning
Not even a tornado warning could stop ThurtenE. Despite almost constant rain and high-speed winds, people from the Washington University and St. Louis communities did not hesitate to come out to Brookings Drive for this year’s carnival. The carnival, which is in its 75th year and is run by ThurtenE, a junior honorary, bore a “Choose Your Own Adventure” theme.
IEEE to present sustainability panel, five corporations to be represented
More than a hint of sustainability is in the air at Washington University these days. In an effort to educate the University community about various energy issues, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) will be hosting a major energy sustainability panel titled, “Going Green: A Corporate Debate on Energy and Sustainability” on April 29.
Cold War Kids, Shwayze to headline W.I.L.D.
It’s time to get wild. This spring’s Walk In Lay Down (W.I.L.D.) concert lineup, featuring the Cold War Kids and Shwayze, was announced last week at the Washington University DJ Battle hosted by Team 31, the student group responsible for the biannual concert. The Cold War Kids are a four-person American indie rock band hailing from southern California. They have released two albums and are currently producing a third.
Ace of Cakes sweetens Monday
Zombie hands, skyscrapers and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. What do they all have in common? All have been made into cake creations by cake artist Jeffrey Adam “Duff” Goldman, who came to speak to students in Graham Chapel on Monday as part of the Congress of the South 40’s (CS40) Spring South 40 Week of festivities.
South 40 Week
The sun was shining, the air was warm and a palette of colored T-shirts dotted the South 40. This past weekend, the Congress of the South 40 held the annual Residential College Olympics. According to sophomore Hannah Bowling, outgoing CS40 speaker and current Student Union senator, almost 600 residents of the South 40 took part in the weekend’s festivities. “RCO was an incredible success,” she said.
