After nearly a year and a half of constant construction, Washington University’s $56.8 million Sam Fox Arts Center is still steadily progressing towards completion.
Steve Rackers, the director of capital projects, said that everything is right on schedule, and the Center should be complete by July 2006.
Though there is much to see and to do on the University’s campus and in the surrounding city of St. Louis, students sometimes struggle to keep their visiting parents entertained. However, this year’s Parents Weekend should prove more exciting and busier than those in previous years.
In addition to the annual University-hosted events, businesses and shops in the newly defined “Clayton Triangle” are hoping to familiarize students and parents with the community by hosting a kick-off party.
The Triangle, which lies between Maryland Avenue, Brentwood Boulevard, and Forsyth Boulevard, is home to restaurants, 25 shops and boutiques, galleries, salons, and a grocery store. Tonight, the Triangle will be hosting an outdoor street party with live entertainment, refreshments, and special coupons from local merchants to celebrate its debut as Clayton’s premier downtown district. The festivities are set to begin at 5 p.m. with a performance by the Clayton High School Jazz Band that will continue into the evening.
Next week Tau Kappa Epsilon will give students an alternative to ditching their old furniture in the dumpster. Their annual furniture drive, now in its second year, will collect students’ unwanted furniture and donate it to Places for People, a private, non-profit organization aimed at providing individualized and intensive support for people will mental disorders.
This month’s WILD, combined with mtvU’s “Campus Invasion 2005″ tour several days beforehand, will create the first “Wash U Gone WILD” week.
On Tuesday, April 26, mtvU’s “Campus Invasion 2005″ will take over the Washington University campus for a day of entertainment and activities, culminating in a concert that evening at the Pageant that will feature the English rock groups Muse and Razorlight.
Months after the Student Union Senate passed a resolution urging the University to establish a better system for addressing the issues of its gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning and ally (GLBTQA) community, little has been done to turn those demands into action.
The Campus Programming Council (CPC) is bringing four former cast members from MTV’s popular television shows the Real World and Road Rules to campus to speak with students about their unique experiences. This Friday two Road Rulers-Abram of South Pacific and Rachel of Campus Crawl-will come to Washington University along with Real World cast members MJ of last year’s Real World Philadelphia and Cameran of Real World San Diego.
