On April 29, Washington University students and student groups were honored with the Excellence in Leadership Awards. The annual awards acknowledge outstanding leaders and leadership within the the campus community.
International studies have long been a central aspect of education at Washington University. Most, however, only think of their own prospects for studies abroad. James Wertsch, director of the McDonnell International Scholars Academy, tends to look at things the other way around.
An exhibition featuring issues of nonviolence and peace will be opening at the Olin Library today. The “Gandhi, King, Ikeda: A Legacy of Building Peace” exhibit honors Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr. and Daisaku Ikeda’s contributions to humanity.
“All of these people represent something very important-the whole mission of peace and reconciliation and the power of nonviolence and social engagement,” said Beata Grant, director of the religious studies program.
Washington University, along with 18 other schools, announced yesterday that it has submitted an application to host the 2008 presidential debates. The Commission on Presidential Debates will conduct site surveys during the next several months; selections will be announced in October.

Gary Hochberg, associate dean in the Olin School of Business, announced his intent to step down from his position in an e-mail sent to the business school community by Dean Mahendra Gupta on Friday.

Student Union denied, in part, Relay for Life’s appeal for funding, effectively reducing their yearly budget by 23 percent last Tuesday. Relay for Life executives worry that this will compromise their pledge to send all donations to the American Cancer Society.
