Put that name on the list
After posting a 4-2 record at the University Athletic Association Tournament, the Washington University Bear’s baseball team has been receiving some much-deserved respect.
The all-UAA team was announced last week with WU names popping up like grape vines in Napa Valley.
Clippers caught in Wetern Conference blockade
After a 105-92 loss to the Utah Jazz on Saturday night, the Los Angeles Clippers are all but out of the playoff race. After a promising start to the season, the young and upbeat Clippers have been overwhelmed by a tough and experienced Western Conference.
One team will be cutting the nets on April 1 in the Georgia Dome. Chances are it will not be Siena, although ESPN was able to think of every possible way to glorify the 64th team in the field.

Figure Skating:
The Canadian pairs team of Jamie Sale and David Pelletier finally received their much-deserved Olympic gold medals after an Olympic scandal was uncovered. French judge Marie-Reine Le Gougne was apparently pressured into giving the Russian pair higher marks.
Bearcat Fever:
Exactly how good are those Cincinnati Bearcats? Ranked #5 in the country with a 22-2 record, the Bearcats are 9-1 in Conference USA, their only loss at the hands of a strong Marquette team. However, Bob Huggins’ club is still not demanding the level of respect Duke, Kansas, and Oklahoma are garnering.
Smith given second chance:
Former high school standout Leon Smith, who was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in 1999, re-entered the NBA last week with the Atlanta Hawks. Smith never registered a minute in the NBA, despite being a late-first-round pick. The 6’11 250 pound power forward was thrown out of his first practice as a Maverick due to an argument with coach Don Nelson, and followed that up with a suicide attempt in which he tried to swallow two hundred aspirins after a fight with his girlfriend.
Major League Baseball
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) During last year’s All-Star game, Barry Bonds put on a New York Yankees uniform for a picture with his son Nikolai, who wanted to wear his father’s San Francisco uniform.
“Gary Sheffield came by and said I looked like crud,” Bonds recalled on Monday night.
One week down, two more to go until this year’s Super Bowl teams are decided. Three out of four home teams advanced last weekend with the exception of Miami, a team which was headed nowhere in the first place. This week, the home teams are once again strongly favored.
