In certain circles, it’s actually become cool to be out of college and jobless. Sure, everybody wants to rule the world, but to say, “I’m unemployed” has a certain cache that “I work as an administrative assistant” doesn’t.
The reason why it is cool to be unemployed stems from a few factors.
It’s simply an abhorrent practice when women ignore the needs of other women. This happens daily though-it happens in class, it happens in the corporate world, dare I say it even happens in families. Women have made huge strides in the last century, but I felt like all of our efforts for equality stood in limbo the day when Salman Rushdie spoke at Graham Chapel.

Ani DiFranco’s latest album takes you on an emotional journey that expresses some intimacies in the life of a woman who is powerful, strong, hurt, annoyed, and grateful-but not angry. In general, Ani’s guitar chords are fresh, clean, and repetitive in a way that makes you feel comfortable with the album.

I was not at Washington University my freshman year – I was at a university with similar stature in the quaint town of Providence, Rhode Island (Brown University). I must say that I was not prepared for what college had to offer at all.
Suddenly, I was able to take any class I wanted (and I mean any class – there were no requirements), party as often as I wanted to, and participate in hardcore extra-curriculars, like the Brown Daily Herald.
I’m just another columnist who is going to use Harvard as an example: 90 percent of Harvard seniors graduate with honors. While at Harvard, there’s the traditional “Gentleman’s B,” Washington University boasts the “Gentleman’s C-.”
I was dismayed early on in the semester to receive a “C” on a paper that met the length requirement and made numerous references to the book being discussed in my English class.
Do you ascribe to the belief that everything will be wonderful someday, at least for yourself, or do you hold a less idealistic view of life? I think that deep down, maybe subconsciously, many of us feel that things will work out. But what happens when you graduate? Seriously, I know two people who are working at Schnucks, one person at a coffee shop, and one person who’s working part-time for a catering company.
