I don’t know if I necessarily have anything particularly insightful to say here. After all, my college experience was probably pretty typical. I double majored in psychology and math. I was very involved in my two extra-curriculars (StudLife and club rugby) and didn’t do much else.
The Washington University swimming and diving teams kicked off the second half of their season with a bang, with a decisive win over Lindenwood University on Friday night. The women came out on top with a 156-77 victory, and the men won 136-106. The men’s team followed up the next day with a win against Wabash College, defeating the Little Giants 172-126.
The swim teams made quite a splash at the Wheaton Invitational this year.
At their mid-season championship meet, both the men’s and women’s swim teams accomplished exactly what they wanted-to qualify as many people as possible for the NCAA Championship meet in March.
Following a successful meet last weekend at the Maroon Invitational in Chicago, where the men’s team won and the women’s placed second, the swimming and diving teams have a lot to be thankful for.
In another strong showing this weekend, the men’s and women’s teams both took second place to Lindenwood University in the annual WU Thanksgiving Invitational.
The swimming teams are still going strong.
Lower numbers and the loss of some key swimmers from last season have not stopped the Bears yet. In their second dual meet of the season, their first against a Division III opponent, the Washington University swimming and diving teams both defeated DePauw University at Millstone Pool on Saturday.
And they’re off to the races. At this weekend’s annual Show Me Showdown sprint meet in Columbia, Mo., both the men’s and women’s swim teams turned out fourth place finishes, competing against teams from all across Missouri who usually compete at all different NCAA divisions.
It may still be early in the season, but enthusiasm is running high among Bear swimmers.
The swim teams kicked off their long season Saturday with their annual dual meet against Division I Saint Louis University. Despite slightly depleted rosters for both the men and the women, both teams turned in strong performances.
The Bears finished out their season with a record of 35-7 and their second place finish in the national tournament is the best in program history.
The Washington University softball team remained untouchable this weekend, sweeping their three games and extending their win streak to 18.
The 16th-ranked Bears won both games of their doubleheader Saturday against Maryville University, edging a 3-2 victory in the first game and riding a strong offense and another dominant pitching performance by senior Laurel Sagartz to a 9-0 win in the second.
There are wins and then there are slaughters. Washington University’s 23rd-ranked softball team absolutely dominated Blackburn College in a doubleheader Wednesday, combining for 34 runs, 36 hits and 10 home runs in the two-game sweep. Despite being five players short for the away games, the Bears defeated Blackburn decidedly in the first game 10-0, then went on an all-out offensive rout in the second game, winning 24-2 and scoring 15 runs in the first inning.
