Online Exclusive: Women’s Basketball Prepares for Another Big Weekend

After asserting themselves as serious UAA contenders with a 21-point defeat of then No. 2 University of Rochester last Friday, Washington University’s women’s basketball team enters another extremely tough weekend in UAA competition.

Tonight, the Bears, host No. 17 Brandies University at 6 p.m. They will then close out the weekend against the 15th-ranked Violets of New York University on Sunday, also at the Field House.

With five of the eight UAA teams ranked or receiving votes in the current D3hoops.com poll, the Red and Green are undeniably playing in the toughest conference in Division III women’s basketball and will face no breaks during the rest of the season. This weekend will prove to be no exception as the Bears face two perennially tough teams. The squad has an especially bitter rivalry with New York University.

Watch for senior Rebecca Parker and sophomore Jaimie McFarlin, both of whom are averaging double-doubles in conference play, to lead the Bears. Senior guard Sarah Schell, who is 42 assists away from breaking the all-time UAA record, should also make a strong contribution.
