Anthony Jacuzzi

Both the men and women’s soccer teams were in action this past Wednesday as they played host to Illinois Wesleyan. The men took the field first and easily won by a score of 4 – 0 to improve their record this season to 9 – 3 -2 (4 – 1 -1 in the UAA). The win marked the Bear’s second straight victory after suffering their first loss in over a month. Giles Bissonnette recorded his fifth shut out of the season as he and the Bear’s try to gear up for a postseason run. The win also was a game in which the Bears were able to get prepared for a showdown this weekend in Chicago, where WU will take on the University of Chicago in their final UAA game of the season. After the weekend stint up north, the Bears have two final home matches against Rockford College on Halloween evening and then against Westminster on Saturday, November 3rd, which will mark the final regular season game for seniors David Schumacher, Jeff Thompson, Matt Katke, Derek Tracy, Casey Lien, Sarat Ganga, Brandon Pierce, and Josh Brant.
On the other side, the women’s lost a close one 1 – 0, suffering their fourth shutout of the season and their sixth loss in the last seven matches. The team now stands at 6 – 7 – 1 (2 – 3- 1 in the UAA). The women will wrap up their season this Saturday at the University of Chicago, where seniors Stephanie Peters, Stacy Trent, Lauren Hyer, Mariah Weyland, and Jessica Glick will play their final games for WAshington University. Glick has been the Bear’s leader all season, with 11 goals and 8 assists for a total of 30 points this season, including three game winning goals.
