The Edwards Bunch

John Edwards is the son of a mill worker from North Carolina, John went to North Carolina State University for college and the University of North Carolina for law school. He married Elizabeth, whom he met at UNC, in 1977. After their son Wade died in 1996 in a car accident, John decided to run for public office and successfully ran for the Senate.

Elizabeth Edwards is the daughter of a Navy pilot and attended school in Japan. She received both her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina. After law school, she worked for the North Carolina Attorney General’s office. After her son’s death, she founded the Wade Edwards Foundation with her husband.

Cate Edwards, 22, recently graduated from Princeton University with a Political Economics major. Since graduation she has been active on the campaign trail with her father.

Emma Claire Edwards. Six years old.

Jack Edwards. Four years old.

The Kerry Camp

John Kerry was born Dec. 11, 1943 in Colorado and grew up in Massachusetts. He attended Yale University. After being awarded multiple honors for his service in Vietnam, he became a spokesman for Vietnam Veterans Against the War. He was elected Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut in 1982 and to the Senate in 1984.

Teresa Heinz Kerry grew up in Mozambique, attended college in South Africa, and went to translator school at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. She married John Heinz III, the heir to the Heinz ketchup fortune, in 1966. He later became a Republican senator from Pennsylvania. However, he died in 1991, leaving Teresa a widow with three sons. After her husband’s death, Teresa expanded the Heinz foundations and established the Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement. She married John Kerry in 1995.

Alexandra Kerry, 30, is John Kerry’s oldest daughter. She is a filmmaker and actress who graduated from the American Film Institute in June. She is single and lives in L.A.

Vanessa Kerry, 27, closely resembles John Kerry. She is in her third year at Harvard Medical School. She is also planning to pursue a master’s degree in international relations, economics and health policy. Though she is considered a more private person than Alex, ‘Nessa’ has spent substantial time in front of the camera promoting her father’s platform.

Andre Heinz, 34, speaks three languages and works in Stockholm as an environmental consultant. His specialty is industrial ecology, and his goal is to promote various environmentally sustainable strategies for global industry and economics.

John Heinz IV, 37, is married with a child. Teresa’s oldest son is a Buddhist educator who runs a school in Eastern Pennsylvania. John is also an accomplished blacksmith and craftsman of medieval armor. He has been the most reclusive of the Kerry-Heinz children over the course of the campaign, and was absent from the Democratic National Convention, among other events.

Chris Heinz, 31, has long been in the public eye, having dated Gwenyth Paltrow in 2000. Along with Vanessa, he has been extremely active on the Kerry campaign trail. He is considering a career in politics, possibly in Pennsylvania, like his father.
