Chiodos, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Emery and The Devil Wears Prada rock Pop’s
This Saturday at Pop’s, screamo reigned. Not just any group of four, these bands have all released albums in the last few months. “Bone Palace Ballet” the latest from Chiodos, debuted at #5 on the Billboard charts. Sticking to the same formula that made them household names amongst the MySpace generation, the album is a strong return. The high energy and extreme volume of the set was one to be remembered.
Scary Kids Scaring Kids are back with their second full length album. The self-titled LP is full of tracks that remind us exactly why we love them. Synth heavy, and full of well placed screaming, as well as Tyson Stevens’ strong vocals, the album exactly what any Scary Kids fan could hope for. The set was short at only six songs, most of which were off the new self titled release.
Emery’s third album “I’m Only A Man” is likely to continue to propel them into the limelight of the post-hardcore/screamo scene. Being a member of Tooth and Nail also won’t hurt. The highlight of the album is “Don’t Bore Us, Get To The Chorus.” Starting of with harmonies and then fading out, the stage is set. Emery doesn’t let the build-up go to waste; the synth which comes in around the minute mark spices up the track, which comes to a crashing finale. Their set, following Scary Kids, was enough to get the entire crowd jumping and dancing.
Overall the show was one of the better screamo line-ups to head through St. Louis. Scary Kids Scaring Kids provided the perfect opening energy to get the crowd amped up for Emery and Chiodos. Emery themselves managed to keep the crowd moving and moshing throughout the set.
