Human rights campaign field director visit WU

Scott Bressler

Human Rights Campaign, the largest LGBT advocacy group in the country, has recently come under scrutiny from the LGBT community for its position on federal legislation banning discrimination based on sexual orientation. The bill originally contained a provision banning discrimination based on gender identity that was intended to protect transgendered individuals and others who defy gender norms. When that provision was removed, the majority of LGBT advocacy groups said the bill was too weak and began actively opposing the bill. Human Rights Campaign instead decided to neither support nor oppose the legislation, which brought criticism from the LGBT community.
