Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor:
I completely agree with Arjun “AJ” Varma (“Letters to the Editor,” Feb. 9, 2007). One should not argue against science with religion. However, if one person misinterpreted my letter about Greg Allen’s article (“You are going to die,” Feb. 2, 2007), then I am inclined to assume that there are others who might have followed a similar, unfortunate corridor of thinking.
Being committed and having faith are qualities of one’s demeanor; it is not a belief or a set of rules that establish the origin of life and so forth. If I said I have faith in your level of comprehension, for example, it does not mean your level of comprehension is part of my spiritual creed! All I am saying is to live life! There are no religious references lurking in my sentences. I am truly concerned if you discovered a controversy about evolutionary biology embroiled between my letter and Greg Allen’s “scientific” article.
