Music Calendar 1/30-2/5
Yonder Mountain String Band
Friday, January 31st at the Pageant
Despite their young age, Yonder Mountain is the premiere bluegrass band in the wider jamband scene. Their short, tight fiddle-laden tunes aren’t what you expect from a genre known for exploratory songwriting, but their shows draw scores of neohippies regardless.
Christine Kane
Saturday, February 1s at Off Braodway
Sunday, February 2nd at WU
Yet another talented singer-sonwriter brought to the ‘Lou couretsy of WU’s Acoustic City Concert Series. If you miss Kane at the Off Broadway Saturday night, you can always catch her the next day right here at school.
Coldplay w/ Ron Sexsmith
Monday, February 3rd at the Savvis Center
Coldplay needs no introduction; they are probably the most popular band in alternative rock right now. The odd thing is that they are endlessly compared to Radiohead, with whom they have little in common except genre and a tendency to whine. Coldplay’s new album is fantastic, though, and this is one stadium show that will probably be worth the price.
The Anniversary
Tuesday, February 4th at the Gargoyle
Mad props to the Gargoyle for booking this prog-rock band. The critics couldn’t stop raving about the band’s last album, 2000′s Your Majesty, and now for the low student price, we’ll get to find out why.
moe.
Wednesday, February 5th at the Pageant
A jamband that inspires the term. Besides having a few staple songs, there’s really no way to predict the content of a moe. concert. What you can predict is a good time and a setting in which to dance your ass off.
WU MUSIC
Pianist Kurt Landis and his trio will perform for Washington University’s Jazz at Holmes Series tonight, Thursday, January 30th.
