The Golden Age of Movies
Web Master The Performing Arts department begins its second show of the season, Once in a Lifetime, at Edison Theater this weekend.
The show is set at the rise of the talkie-era of film and follows three poor Vaudeville performers as they try to make a go of show business. George, Jerry, and May fill the show with their quick wit and outrageous antics. The three use their biting Vaudevillian smarts to lie their way into the Hollywood scene. By standing in as movie diction coaches, the outsiders are able to infiltrate the inner workings of the film world and complete their transformation from slap-happy puppets to true comedians.
The comedy, written by Broadway legends Kaufman and Hart was one of the most successful shows to hit the stage during Broadway’s golden years. Standing the test of time, Once in a Lifetime still manages to take the audience on an insanely funny ride through the early days of Tinsel Town.
Not often are stage comedies able to win laughs from so many generations and now with some of Wash U’s finest acting and behind stage, the show promises to be one of the most outrageous and anticipated shows of the PAD season. Be sure to catch this Broadway hit brought to the Edison in one of its six engagements, starting tomorrow and running through Sunday, November 2nd.
