Theater Spotlight: Copenhagen

Michael Frayn’s Tony-award winning play, which comes to Edison Theatre this weekend, tells the story of a hypothetical 1941 meeting between Werner Heisenberg, the Nazis’ prize physicist, and his mentor and colleague, the Danish, half-Jewish Niels Bohr. Frayn suggests that the main topic of conversation was probably the prospect of an atomic bomb, which both the Allies and the Germans were pursuing furiously, and with Bohr and Heisenberg deeply embedded on opposite sides of the race. The production coming to the Edison has been praised by critics as a gri pping and fascinating masterpiece. Not to be missed. -DC
