Hart’s War

Based on the novel by John Katzenbach, Bruce Willis and Colin Farrell star as a general and the lieutenant he assigns to defend a black soldier (Terrence Howard) wrongly accused of murdering a white prisoner in this World War II movie directed by Gregory Hoblit. Hart’s War combines three big trends in current movies: set during a war, based on a book, racial conflict. Joy, joy. At the Esquire.

Iris

Kate Winslet and Judi Dench each play Iris Murdoch at different stages in her life in this adaptation of Elegy for Iris, literary critic John Bayley’s 1998 memoir of his marriage to Iris. The movie displays Iris’s struggle with and decent into Alzheimer’s disease. As her mind deteriorates, Iris tries to finish her 26th, and last, book. And then, at the end. oh, I forget. At the Plaza Frontenac.

Super Troopers

Thorny (Jay Chandrasekhar), Rabbit (Erik Stolhanske), Mac (Steve Lemme) and Foster (Paul Soter) are state troopers who have boring jobs in this comedy written by Broken Lizard. Then, one day, they inadvertently uncover a drug smuggling ring (damn, I knew I left that thing laying around somewhere) during their attempt to impress superiors during a time of budget cutbacks, and the antics begin. At the Union Station 10.

John Q.

Directed by Nick Cassavetes and starring Anne Heche, Denzel Washington, and Robert DuVall, John Q is about the response of a father whose son cannot receive the heart transplant he needs because of inadequate health insurance. John’s solution is to take over the emergency room until his demands are met and his son is put back on the donor list. Take that, uncaring HMOs. At the Esquire.
