Heist
The latest film by playwright David Mamet (Glengarry Glenross), featuring Gene Hackman as a thief who decides to retire and sail around the world with his young wife. Of course his cronies are a little upset by this and eventually talk Hackman into doing one last job. With such an original plotline, this movie should be very entertaining. At Chase Park Plaza

Shallow Hal
Ultra waif Gwyneth Paltrow dons a 300-pound fatsuit in this “heartfelt” comedy from the Farrelly Brothers. Jack Black, one-half of the rock comedy duo Tenacious D, stars as Hal, a regular guy with outrageously high standards. He can’t seem to find the right woman until Tony Robbins hypnotizes him to only see a person’s inner-beauty, causing him to unwittingly fall in love with a plus-size girl. Is it me or does this movie just seem wrong? At the Esquire

The Man Who Wasn’t There
Billy Bob Thornton stars as a California barber in the 1940s who discovers his wife has been unfaithful to him. He concocts a blackmailing scheme that ultimately results in deadly consequences. With supporting performances by Frances McDormand, James Gandolfini, and Tony Shaloub, the Coen Brothers’ black and white film noir has received some of the best reviews this year. At Plaza Frontenac

Am‚lie
From Jean-Pierre Jeunet, wild-eyed director of Delicatessan and City of Lost Children, comes another splash of visual wildfire. Am‚lie (Audrey Tautou), a spritely and angelic lash takes it upon herself to liberate Paris. Expect use your eyes…until they bleed into the cobblestone streets of timeless French fancy.
