Psycho Beach Party in the Quad

Web Master

Psycho-terror movies and babes in bikinis usually don’t belong together on the same page, but they will appear on the same stage, this Thursday through Sunday.
Psycho Beach Party, written by Charles Busch and directed by WU Sophomore Jordana Kritzer, will be presented as the annual spring performance by All Student Theatre this weekend.
Psycho Beach Party, released as a short-run flick last August, revolves around the Malibu-glam life of Chicklet Forrest, a sixteen year old All-American Girl with an acute case of multiple personality disorder. A tomboy at heart, this sixteen year old desperately wants to be a part of the in-crowd of Malibu surfers. Her beachy life gets turned upside down when a series of shocking murders take place, though, and Captain Monica Stark is called in to investigate the gory scene.
Nearly everyone in the cast is a potential suspect. Whether it be the king of the beach, Kanaka, his psychoanalytic prot‚g‚ Starcat, the Hollywood starlet Bettina Barnes, the all-in-one secretary, masseuse and personal assistant Berdine, the sultry teenage sexpot Marvel Ann, the perfect mom with the dark side, Mrs. Forrest, the Swedish exchange student with the big mouth, Lars, the bitch on wheels, Rhonda, the studly wrestlers YoYo and Provaloney, or even Chicklet herself. Someone is guilty, and someone is going down.
This spoof of classic `50s and `60s beach party movies, with a decidedly Hitchcockian twist, is chock full of silly subplots, whacked-out characters and a story line that is as indecipherable as it is hilarious. Perhaps best of all, the entire twisted mess comes together beautifully at the end.
If you’re looking for a campy, crazy, celestial good time (the play is performed outdoors on the stage in the quad), look no further, Psycho Beach Party is your gig.
Will Captain Monica ever catch the culprit? Who is the culprit? Will Chicklet ever reconcile her multiple personas? And, for god’s sake, what will happen to the Psycho Beach Party? For the answers to these burning questions, I can only refer you to the Pavillion Stage in the Quad, where performances will start at 8 pm. Tickets, $4 in advance or $5 at the door-are available at the box office or through Metrotix. The production is co-sponsored by Student Union.
